Lesson Plan: Phoebe the Spy

Grade Level: Third Grade

Time Alloted: 3-5 45 minutes sessions


Objective:

Students will be able to demonstate reading comprehension of the book Phoebe the Spy.

The students will be able to describe the main story line, name 3 characters, and describe their favorite

part of the book and why it is their favorite part.

Option 1 Procedure:
1. Students will be introduced to the the book Phoebe the Spy.
2. Students will choose to read the book silently to themselves or use the computer lab in the back of the room to listen to the podcast of the story being read to them.
3. Students will complete a worksheet to gauge reading or listening comprehension.
4. The worsheet will ask to list the story's main idea, list 3 characters, list their favorite part of the book and why they choose that as their favorite part of the book.
5. Students will complete a Powerpoint slide about one of the characters, and list traits about that character.

Option 2 Procedure
1. Students will be introduced to the book Pheoebe the Spy
2. Students will all read the book silently or use the computer lab in the back of the room to listen to the podcast of the story
3. Students will all have the opportunity to create a podcast about their reading comprehension of the book.
4. Students will record via podcast: main idea of book, list 3 characters, choice a favorite part of the book, and support why they chose their favorite part.
5. The students will listen to all student responses.


Assessment: Students will be evaluated (rubric) on stating the plot of the book, 3 characters, and having support for their favorite part of the book.
